Roles

As a fast-growing organisation, we're always keen to hear from experienced individuals who are interested in the following roles:

Project Managers

Project Managers at Balfour Beatty Management have total accountability for ensuring a project meets its objectives. Adopting a ‘let’s get the job done’ approach, they take full responsibility for delivering targets connected to safety, timescales, quality and cost. Unlike other companies, where tasks are limited to reporting back on timescales and budget, many of our Project Managers have the technical grounding that allows them to get fully involved with contractors and designers, understand any issues and suggest solutions that can take the project forward.

Working to high standards and exacting procedures, most of our Project Managers have substantial experience of managing large multidisciplinary contracts. They need to be strong managers, able to lead, communicate and negotiate with ease. We’re also looking for the drive and commitment to inspire teams and engender confidence in clients. Chartered Membership is an advantage.

Commercial Managers

Commercial Managers work with our Project Managers to successfully deliver projects and commissions, and are responsible for the management and training of the Quantity Surveying team. They set up strong commercial controls for the project; including the management and delivery of cost planning, procurement, budgeting and cost reporting, change control, risk management, and contract administration requirements of the project - throughout its lifecycle.

We are looking for driven, professionally qualified people who have led teams in a contracting or consulting environment. A broad range of experience in both pre- and post- contract commercial management is important, and time spent in quantity surveying in civil, building or rail engineering sectors would be an advantage. Good communication and interpersonal skills are essential, together with an ability to adapt to an ever-changing and diverse environment.

Quantity Surveyors

Our Surveyors are responsible for a variety of projects and commissions across a range of engineering sectors - including pre-contract, procurement and post contract commercial services. Here, they can work on a breadth of projects unavailable elsewhere in the industry. This gives them the opportunity to develop their career along a number of paths - and to see projects through to completion.

We need people who are professionally qualified, or working towards qualification. With an ability to adapt to varying environments and engineering disciplines, they should be eager to develop their technical and managerial skills through a number of complex and challenging projects. At BBM, they can look forward to many varied training opportunities - including structured training programmes for professional membership, external courses, conferences and on-the job development.

Planning

Opportunities include Project Controls Managers, Planning Managers and Planners, at all levels. Each of these roles are involved from the very start of a project to ensure effective planning and monitoring of the work. They’ll have the chance to set the standards and working methods for the project controls/planning functions across an entire project, or programme of projects. This will involve ensuring the provision of accurate and meaningful programmes and project information.

For all management roles, we want to meet experienced managers with a recent background in project controls/planning gained in a transport, utilities, power, construction, building or similar engineering environment. Ideally with a degree in engineering, the ability to plan and facilitate planning is important, as is IT literacy. They must also be keen to develop a team and have a strong sense of ownership of their work.

For planning roles, we look for relevant work experience backed by an engineering degree and/or demonstrable planning ability in an engineering environment. Alternatively, we can provide full training to engineers who have site, project management or design management experience, and are keen to develop their career in the planning field.

Engineers and Operations Specialists

Our Engineering and Operations specialists are multi-disciplinary and work alongside a variety of colleagues throughout infrastructure project life cycles: from concept development, through feasibility and design, to construction, commissioning and operations performance improvement. The focus is on Value Management and Risk Management, helping clients to achieve their business objectives and get better value for money. They develop their skills on small and large-scale projects where engineering and operations leadership is critical.

We are looking for operators and engineers from all disciplines that understand Systems Engineering in its widest sense. They will be flexible and relish the challenge of participating in teams to solve difficult problems on complex infrastructure for our clients.

Graduate Training Scheme

Like our business, Balfour Beatty Management’s Graduate Scheme is fully flexible and tailored to suit your personal career aspirations. We will ensure that you are exposed to all the relevant areas of the business to enable you to experience a breadth of challenges whilst utilising you to help us meet our business needs. Your training will be a mixture of on-the-job and external courses, combined to create a learning environment to support your growth. We welcome applications from both Engineering graduates and non-Engineering graduates, with a 2:1 or above. More than your degree subject though, it is your potential and flexibility, your ability to solve problems and communicate complex ideas simply that will distinguish you.
